Westex guarantees the flame resistance of Westex UltraSoft®fabrics for the life of the garment. This guarantee has been demonstrated in laboratory testing and through the auditing of samples from the millions of garments in the protective clothing marketplace for over two decades. There are many “unseen” details that go into the production of durable flame resistant cotton and cotton blend fabrics. This starts with the production of the base material, dyeing, preparation, FR engineering process, internal laboratory testing, external laboratory testing and technical support all the way to the proven performance of the FR fabric in the market. They have spent decades perfecting the highly technical, proprietary flame resistant fabric technology to produce our trusted fabrics which are market proven, world-leading brands. This high level of performance is achieved by the Westex proprietary production process, which combines advanced custom engineered machinery with sophisticated computer equipment to conduct the “ammonia cure” system.

Westex guarantees the flame resistance of UltraSoft®, UltraSoft AC™ and Indura® fabrics for the useful life of such garments when proper care procedures are employed. It’s important to recognize that the thermal protective properties of any flame resistant fabric can be compromised by the presence of contaminants in the fabric from which the garment is made.

KERMEL®  Lenzing® FR

Lensing® FR viscose is made by Lenzing® Fibres, the largest producer of viscose fibres in the world, and is a cellulosic fibre which has a flame retardant pigment built into the fibre during the fibre spinning stage. The combination of these two fibres produces a garmentoffering excellent comfort properties with inherent FR protection capabilities

Fabrics made up of 30% or 50% Lenzing® FR (FR viscose), having proven themselves over many years, provide protection from heat and flames as well as from acids and chemical projections. They do not burn, do not melt and retain their mechanical properties.

Kermel/ Lenzing FR mixtures provide constant protection from fire exposure and heat flash hazards. Ideally suited for hot climates, they offer a high degree of comfort, thanks to the flexibility and softness of the mixture. A large variety of clothing and underwear is available in fabric or knitwear.

Kermel products are certified to NFPA 2112.

NOMEX

Quick Facts

The effectiveness of Nomex® has been proven and documented in laboratories, field tests and real-life flash fire and electric arc situations. Garments made with Nomex® thermal technology are extremely durable and resist abrasion, tears and chemicals. They’re also an excellent value, lasting three to five times longer than other standard and protective fabrics, including 100% cotton and flame-retardant treated (FRT) cotton. In lease, rental and purchase programs, the outstanding wear life of garments of Nomex® IIIA can contribute to bottom-line savings. Garments of Nomex® are as comfortable to wear as other work clothing. Side-by-side wear tests show that fabric weight is the single greatest factor in controlling garment comfort, and that the lightweight comfort of Nomex® is often preferred over other protective fabrics. A key factor in the thermal protection Nomex® provides is that it carbonizes and thickens when exposed to the intense heat of today’s fires. This increases the protective barrier between the heat source and the skin and minimizes burn between the heat source and the skin and minimizes burn injury. This tough, protective barrier stays supple and flexible until it cools, which gives you valuable extra seconds of protection when you need it most. Garments made from Nomex® are also durable — lasting, on average, two to three times longer than most other standard and protective fabrics, including 100% cotton, polyester/garment blends and FRT cotton. In fact, industrial launderers estimate that the average wear life of protective apparel made of Nomex® is approximately five years, and that it can be washed and worn at least 125 times. Comparatively, garments made of FRT cotton can be washed and worn an average of only 36-50 times.

Care and Maintenance

Garments of NOMEX® can be washed and dried by any conventional home method, followed by hand ironing if necessary. No special technology is needed for home laundering garments of NOMEX®. However, home procedures may not remove the last traces of very heavy, widespread or ground-in soils, which may be flammable and could adversely affect the thermal protective performance of garments of NOMEX®. If home laundering does not remove contaminants or contaminant build-up, garments can be periodically dry cleaned or commercially laundered. When gar­ments are contaminated by hazardous materials, only commercial or on-site laundering or dry cleaning should be used with the appropriate wastewater treatment techniques.
